After making several wire wrapped pendants last year, to give as gifts, I still had quite a few Dollar Tree glass cabochons left over. I decided they would make perfect fridge magnets to give as teacher gifts, or neighbor gifts, or to use as stocking stuffers. In the end, I really liked them, so I kept them for myself!
Fridge magnets aren't just for fridges -- they are great to use on magnetic bulletin boards in your home's command center, or to use on metal filing cabinets in your office.
Most of the nice colored glass baubles had been used for the pendants so I was left with several clear pieces, but that was perfect, because clear glass works best for this project.
To make your own DIY magnets, start by finding paper with interesting patterns on it. I used a combination of scrapbook paper and old magazine pages for my magnets.
Trace around your magnets and cut out the circles from your paper.
Using an inexpensive paintbrush and a decoupage medium, such as Mod Podge, adhere the paper rounds to your glass cabochon. Make sure the pretty side faces the glass.
Be sure to glue the edges well, and go over the whole thing with more Mod Podge once it's adhered.
Make lots. It's fun.
When they are all dry, adhere magnets to the backs of the cabochons (E6000 glue works well for this). Easy peasy!
