Vintage Jingle Bells

I scored these darling over-sized Christmas bells at the local Goodwill the other day!   They are each about nine inches long, and about five inches wide at the bottom.

They are plastic and covered in shimmery glitter, with fancy scroll work, and a pretty gold trim.

The scroll work has old-fashioned gem accents.

Each bell has a glittery Styrofoam ball for a clapper.

Do you ever feel just a bit nostalgic when you see things that remind you of younger days?

A couple of the bells still had original packaging.  The package here says Made in British Hong Kong.  Remember (not sooooo long ago) when people were rushing to visit Hong Kong one more time before the change-over?   Funny, how we can find bits of history in something so humble as packaging for a plastic bell!

Enjoy the rest of your week!

  1. What fun! Christmas decorations! That is also what I really should be doing right now instead of having fun blogging! But maybe a few comments can't hurt?
    Best wishes,
    Anna's J-post(Jenny)

  2. I sat and watched TV in July 1997, when Chris Patten formally made the hand over of Hong Kong back to the Chinese. Up until then, it was really common to see 'Made in Hong Kong' stamped on the bottom of all sorts of goods.

  3. What a wonderful find!! They are so pretty and I so love the vintage look. Thank you for sharing.

  4. Your little bells will certainly add a sparkle to you other decorations.

  5. These bells are really pretty ! I have done my Christmas decoration because the first advent was last Sunday. Quiet early this year !

  6. You were in the right place at the right time! The bells are wonderful...we have a few items made during that same era...a small church with a light inside and mica glitter outside, ornaments and even a few things that say "Made in Occupied Japan." You are so right - these little treasures reflect history in the making.

  7. What a fantastic find at GW...and in excellent shape. So neat that you appreciate the vintage Christmas they represent. Great Letter J post.

  8. Very pretty jingling bells for your tree!

  9. Nice Bells . I thought Jingle bells was a good J too :)

  10. Reminds me I haven't been in a while...I usually come away with at least one complete steal. I really like those bells. They remind me of your "Gracious Home" talk on how to decorate a tree.

  11. I think my grandmother has similar bells. Yours remind me of the decorations she used to put up.

  12. Great find, those are so charming!

    Happy VTT,

  13. They made me think of the song "White Christmas," and now I feel like I'm dreaming of plastic and styrofoam!

  14. The Brits should have hung on to it!!!!

  15. So pretty, and I love the historical significance you found in them.

  16. Oh wow very pretty and very festive "J" post!!!

  17. Your jingle bells was definitely a score! Great condition....Do I ever feel nostalgic when I see things that remind me of my younger days? You bet I do. Lately, they are things I never thought I would even remember. Nice to know all of it is still in my brain somewhere. :-)
    Peace and Joy,
    Su-sieee! Mac
J is for Joy of Christmas

  18. oh wow ... that is a score, just for the packaging alone ... I have a beautiful Christmas angel doll that is about 50 years old ... She topped the family Christmas tree throughout my entire childhood. i keep meaning to redo her, but the last time she was redone, my Grandma knitted a dress for her and i cant bear to take it off the doll or part with it ...

  19. nostalgic? definitely! Even when I saw a metal Bandaid box with friends while antiquing a couple days ago. It's just amazing how even an ordinary object can take you w-a-y back in time!

  20. Those are soooooo cool! I love them!

How vintage and fun and festive and funky!

Lucky you to find them at Goodwill like that.

Lucky us that you shared your treasures with us.

    Thank you for linking.
