Recently, my son pulled up roots and moved half-way across the country, carrying with him only what would fit in his pick-up and a small trailer.
He's been furnishing his new home from craigslist and has really inspired me with the quality of items he is finding!
With the holidays fast approaching, we need to get a guest room ready in our little city crash pad. I decided to look at my local listings to see if it was possible to furnish an entire room for free. Today. Guess what? You really can! Here are some items I found this morning.
This World Market queen size bed is in great condition. It's upholstered in a nice neutral gray, so it will work with lots of different color schemes.
Not sure how it might look in your home, with pretty bedding? Here is a beautifully made bed that is similar to the free one. Isn't it lovely? If you don't have art to go over your bed, you might take a page from this stylist's book (literally) and pin up some pages from an old novel.
Not into the vintage book page look? That's okay -- you can find free art on craigslist! Here is a free piece of vintage nautical art. Nautical art is all the rage right now!
This home was featured in Country Living, and has displays of vintage nautical art in nearly every room!
You can often find very high quality items, like this nightstand. This nightstand is sturdy and well built, but the finish is in terrible condition.
That's no problem if you are willing to roll up your sleeves and paint. You can almost always find free paint on craigslist, too! Need inspiration? The folks over at 4 the Love of Wood, transformed this nightstand into a distressed beauty!
Mixing and matching nightstands is really popular right now. How about grabbing this little round patio table for the other side of the bed?
See how a humble painter's drop cloth transformed a little round table from At the Picket Fence! This metal patio bistro table is much sturdier than those cheap round tables from the discount store.
Of course, we all need lamps to read by at night. This PAIR of lamps is perfect, and they even come with shades!
There were several dressers on craigslist this morning, but this is the one that caught my eye. It's made by Drexel, so you know it is well built. No drawers? No problem! Pull off the drawer glides, paint and distress everything and add baskets.
See how dressers can be updated with large baskets over at Southern Revivals.
