Star Tutorials You Must Try for Fourth of July!

Are you ready for the Fourth of July?  It's always been one of my favorite holidays. In the sweet little Colorado town where we raised our kiddos, there was a kid's parade and an orchestra performance in a lovely old town park.  In the evening, families would grab their blankets and walk up the hill to the golf course for a great fireworks display. Here in Seattle, the best viewing is from a boat on Lake Union. Folks take their boats out early and anchor. They swim and cook on the grill during the day, then snuggle in for the fireworks at dusk.

If you've read my blog for long, you know I love stars!
In honor of Independence Day, I've gathered some favorite star tutorials that can be easily adapted for Fourth of July decor.  Just substitute strips of red, white, or blue poster board or strips of manila folders for the book pages.

This star, also know as the Betsy Ross star, takes no template -- you simply fold a piece of paper, as instructed, and make one cut with your scissors! After that, you crease the points, and add a backing, if desired.

This woven star is very special to me, because it is a woven version of an Advent star that has been in my dear friend Tina Downey's family for several generations. Tina's family is from Sweden, where the craft of weaving stars used to be quite popular. Tina, who was always so vibrant and full of energy, and who blogged over at Life is Good, passed away two summers ago, from complications from whooping cough. She left two teen sons and a husband, and is dearly missed.

This is one of the first and most popular tutorials published on House Revivals. While it is shown here made from folded strips of vintage paper, I have made jumbo versions using strips of poster board, that would be perfect for your holiday decor! Or make smaller versions using colored manila folders, and mount them on wands for picnic centerpieces.
