Annie Sloan Toy Chest Makeover

Today, I am sharing a toy chest makeover using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. This project was done by my dear friend, Jami, for her granddaughters to use when they come for visits.

Jami started with a nice, but dated, oak cedar chest.

She first gave the chest a good wipe down, and a base coat of Annie Sloane Chalk Paint in Duck Egg Blue. To apply the paint, she used a small sponge roller to apply the paint in small sections, then went over the area with a paint brush.

Next, Jami measured, marked, and taped off some stripes on the lid of the chest, and painted the stripes Old White. She quickly and carefully pulled off the tape while the paint was still wet, so she could get a nice clean line.

She painted the trim around the base in the same white color.

Using an old cut up tee shirt, Jami applied first a coat of Annie Sloane clear wax, working in small sections at one time. Next, she repeated the process, with Annie Sloane dark wax. If an area of wax got a little too dark, she worked a bit more clear wax into the area to lift the dark wax.

Jami buffed each area with a soft dry cloth before moving to the next area. When she finished, she went back and buffed the entire chest one more time.

No one would guess this gorgeous chest in Jami's hall holds toys!
