Make This Easy Pumpkin Card!

I don't seem to own any pumpkin or harvest related dies, but I wanted to make a pumpkin card the other day.

Turns out, it's not too hard to make a cute pumpkin card for Thanksgiving, using just a few scraps of decorative paper and a card base.
It's kind of refreshing to be reminded that we don't need lots of fancy tools to create pretty stuff.

To start, you will need a pair of scissors and a scrap of card stock. Sketch a pumpkin shape onto your scrap of card stock. This is where you cannot go wrong -- have you ever seen any two pumpkins that looked alike, or looked perfect? Now cut out the pumpkin shape. I made mine tall and skinny, but you can make yours short and fat, or anywhere in between. My pumpkin shape was about 2 1/2 inches wide by about 3 1/2 inches tall.

Next, grab a handful of scraps, from other projects, in the color range you want to work with. I used scraps with oranges and pinks. Cut narrow strips from your scraps. My strips were about one-quarter inch wide.

Glue the strips to the pumpkin shape.

Turn your pumpkin over and trim the excess strips away.

Trace the "stem" of the pumpkin onto brown or green card stock and cut out. Glue the stem to the pumpkin. Freehand sketch a pumpkin leaf, if desired. This is another of those places where you can't go wrong. Ink the edges of the pumpkin and leaf, if desired, and add veining to the leaf.

Get a piece of cardstock, about a quarter inch smaller on all sides than your card front, to use as a mat. Find a second piece of card stock, the same width as your mat, but only about one and one half inches high. Cut or tear the top of the second piece to create a more organic edge.

Adhere the card together, as shown. Add shading, and ink the edges, if desired. Hand write or stamp a sentiment. I hand wrote the word thankful, to make the card seem more personal.

I hope you try this "fancy tool free" card making concept! Any friend would be thrilled to receive a handmade card.
